Blog #5 Final Progression

Image
Hey, class. During the last few weeks, I have continued making progress to reach my goals for this project. I continued with Duolingo, completing section 1 and making a good amount of progress in section 2. During this time, I have learned how to speak formally, shop at a market, and talk about language. One phrase I learned is, "Der tee kostet sieben Euro," Meaning "The tea costs seven euros      I have mainly focused on listening to conversations or watching television. One show I like is "Dark" on Netflix it is really interesting but very complex so after the first episode I knew I needed subtitles. I think it is cool that I can still be productive while also watching a show I enjoy. I have scrolled through my German learning online community looking at other people's questions and incorporating that information into my practice when speaking and writing. I also have added more to my quizlet , while also reviewing the terms I have already had on the...

My German Vocab Improvement

Image
Hey class, in the last 3 weeks I have improved my German a lot. I have followed my action plan .  Continuing completing duolingo to improve my vocabulary. My duolingo MAX free trial ran out so I did not have unlimited lives anymore, this slowed down my progress.      I have added a few of these words to my quizlet and reviewed them using the match feature. Using some of these words I met with my mom mom and played card games and dominos while speaking in german. This was great because it made her happy and also improved my german. I have made appointments with her to come about once a week. My mom mom bought a book to help. It is challenging to understand what she is saying because it is not only a language that I am not very proficient in but also she has a russian accent. This makes all of the German words she says sound a little different. I will also talk with my mom who knows German. Over the last 3 weeks I would join and just listen to other...

Progressing through German

Over the last 2 weeks, I have progressed in my German by using some new tools and continuing with my old resources. I am still following my action plan, although I have added a few more resources. I continued progressing on Duolingo, using a 7-day free trial for Duolingo MAX, which gave me access to AI conversations and unlimited lives. This helped me extend my 30-minute-a-day sessions to around 45 minutes. Normally my time on Duolingo is capped by me running out of lives, but now I can go until I get bored. Below is how much I have progressed in the Duolingo lessons. Using this AI on Duolingo sparked ideas of what to do when this 7-day trail ends. I can use one of the new additions on chat GTP, which is speaking. I posted this as a source on my online German learning community, and everyone said Chat GTP had a great German accent. I can practice speaking and texting the AI. Chat GTP is like a penpal that answers immediately and provides feedback after my conversation. Douli...

My German Progress

Today is October 17th. During the past few weeks I have continued my duolingo, making learning a little bit of German every day a habit. I got an answer from the student at PW who came from Germany. He said whenever you are ready to practice, text me. This is great since I now have another person I can practice with. This week on duolingo I completed 2 units. I learned more vocab, which has helped me in other ways. I will continue my path to fluency. I joined a German learning community online where people practice with each other. There are native speakers that help correct them. Right now I am not at the level where I can speak with someone, but it is still good to listen as it improves my ability to know when one word ends and another starts.  I also find it interesting just how much the different dialects vary. I am just starting, and I can already tell people are speaking differently.            I also continued to listen to a ...

First Step Towards Fluency

In the last two weeks my German vocabulary using duolingo. I have completed two units, one being ordering in a cafe and the other being describing family. In these lessons I learned words and phrases like "Can I have a coffee with milk" and "I have a brother".  These phrases seems basic but they also taught me Grammar and correct word order. This week while with friends I was informed that there is a student here at PW who came from Germany, I got his phone number and hopefully he allows me to practice with him. I have also contacted family members to try to arrange a time where I can meet with them and they teach me words while talking to me. This will improve my vocabulary and listening skills. It is sometimes hard to understand a different language because it is hard to tell where words end and start listen greatly helps overcome this obstacle. During this week I also found a Octoberfest party which is tomorrow, I will attend with a friend this will help me ...
